Warringah Rugby Club has partnered with new sports education offering ISCA (International Sport College Australia) for the 2019 season and enrolments are now open for the program’s May intake, commencing Monday 3rd June.

ISCA offers aspiring young athletes the opportunity to complete a Higher Education Diploma of Sport Management (High Performance). The qualification allows for students to study business units, sport management, high performance & a structured internship within the sports industry.

Dr Stephen Burke heads up the ISCA Academic Program and says the ability for student-athletes to study and also undertake practical sessions concurrently is the big advantage for the new innovative program.

“Students not only learn in the class-room but undertake strength and conditioning sessions in the gym, coaching sessions on the field, and recovery sessions in the pool,” Dr Burke says.

“This helps the students develop on and off the field, and all practical sessions are linked back to the High Performance subjects.”

“We have been very fortunate to have some great coaches run the field sessions including current Warringah Head Coach Mark Gerrard, former Aussie 7s captain Ed Jenkins and Head of High Performance for Manly Sea Eagles Don Singe.

“This allows us to present students with a wide range of coaching perspectives and improve their technique, as well as increasing their overall strength, fitness, injury prevention & management knowledge, and understanding of nutrition, physiotherapy & sport psychology.”

The three-day per week program caters for all skill levels, with the business and sport management subjects designed to assist students prepare for a career in sport post playing career.
