IN a real coup, club legend Scott Fardy has come on board to primarily look after lineouts, mauls and the breakdown.
“He’s a great Warringah man and obviously has a wealth of experience and knowledge,” Ruthven said.
“The fact that he has spent the majority of his professional career at two incredibly successful clubs in the Brumbies and Leinster - and then his time as a Wallaby – he is going to bring a different dynamic to our group.”
Not only was Fardy an exceptional player, he is also an exceptional character who will be great for the team culture.
He was playing with Japanese club the Kamaishi Seawaves in 2011 when the town was devastated by a tsunami. While he had the chance to leave, the classy backrower stayed and helped the shattered community in the massive recovery effort.
My Scottish son Gregor Townsend played for Warringah in 1993 and 1995. My grandson Christian Townsend flew to Australia this week and hopefully will get some games in the next few months.
